Transition from primary to secondary school can be a daunting experience for any child. It’s also worrying for a parent as they want their child to be able to slot into their new environment and not have too many worries around settling into secondary school. It is a big change – children are treated more as young people, they have more independence, there is more peer pressure, new lessons, more homework and new friendships to create.
We, and they, don’t know how it is going to turn out and there will be a lot of ‘What if’s?’ in the lead-up to September. It can, therefore, be really useful to get a little outside help to navigate the thoughts of a child moving into year 7.
This is where life coaching can come in. As a life coach for children, throughout August, September and October, I work primarily with children who are gearing up for year 7 and hand-holding them as they settle into their new journey. Starting early allows us to address any worries or anxieties a child may have, particularly if they tend to worry or are anxious about unfamiliar situations.
Our sessions can provide children with strategies and support to help them. Through personalised coaching sessions, I can help build their confidence, discuss their worries, and develop coping mechanisms to manage any apprehensions they may have. These sessions will also focus on what to expect in secondary school, help them understand the changes they will encounter, and prepare them socially and emotionally. By the time school starts, they will feel more relaxed, confident and, hopefully, excited.
If this is something you would like for your child, you can contact me via the contact form on my website or by calling me directly on 07961 312 749. I am available to work with children transitioning from the end of August so we have enough time to make a positive impact before school begins.
